Eschelon Advisors was founded in 2003 to provide financial, operating and strategic advice to energy industry principals.  The practice has involved a number of due diligence, analysis, and valuation assignments for major corporations, significant family offices, financial investors, and operating companies.  It has also included financial, placement, and transaction advisory advice for these type of clients.  Examples of projects and clients are:

  • Reliant Energy – consultant during 2003 on management and sale of their venture capital and private equity portfolio.  Venture fund interests were sold to Landmark, a significant secondary market fund, for $17m in total consideration plus a potential profit participation.  Reliant portfolio company Northern Power Systems (5% interest) was sold for $28m to an industry participant.
  • Private Oil and Gas Company – secured and executed, in a joint venture with a major oil and gas property acquisition and divestiture firm, the sale of this privately held Louisiana oil and gas producer.
  • Forbes 400 Family Office – an analysis, valuation, and due diligence assignment in the energy sector for this significant family office.
  • Houston High Net Worth Investor – advisor and due diligence expert on potential investments in the upstream oil and gas and coal industries.
  • Large Energy Private Equity Fund – a placement agent for its initial fund.
  • Private Oil and Gas Company – assisted in the private placement of equity with an institutional investor.

In addition, Eschelon Advisors serves as the General Partner for the Eschelon Energy Partner’s partnerships and has acted as subadvisor on significant public equity positions in the energy industry.

Eschelon Advisors has expanded its activity in the private equity arena to include forming and raising feeder funds for first quartile private equity sponsors.

Significant firms that are part of this effort are Encap, Encap Flatrock, Lexington, Pine Brook, and Warburg Pincus.
